Customer stories throughout the conference reinforced this shift. At the Illinois Institute of Technology, advancement staff encountered a challenge many event managers know well: attendees wanted to register for multiple Homecoming events through a single experience, but the available technology made that difficult.
Rather than accepting the limitation, the team used Microsoft Forms and Power Automate to build a registration process that distributed constituents across multiple events, generated personalized communications, and reduced duplicate registrations. The solution emerged from a business problem, not a technology initiative.
What is impressive is not the technology itself, but the mindset. Staff closest to the operational challenge were able to identify friction, experiment with solutions, and deliver meaningful improvements without undertaking a large-scale technology project.
